 Innerworkings: A Look at Mental Health in Today's Workplace
To better
assess how corporate leaders perceive the
impact of mental illness on today's workplace and the types of policies,
the Partnership for Workplace Mental Health,
a program of the American Psychiatric Foundation; and Employee Benefit
News conducted a survey for EBN subscribers and Partnership constituents.
Employers from across
the country selected mental illness as the health
issue that has the most effect on indirect costs. Survey respondents
believed that while mental health benefits and effective treatments were available,
there is stigma associated with mental illness and treatment and lack of
awareness. The survey also points to an overwhelming need for better
education of frontline
managers and employees on this critical health issue.
