ShareLetter From National Alliance of Professional Psychology Providers to American Psychological Association About Continuing Education Credits

In this letter the National Alliance of Professional Psychology Providers (NAPPP) an industry advocacy group for practicing psychologists, responds to the American Psychological Association (APA) educational directorate position that NAPPP feels threatens the validity of continuing education (CE) credits obtained outside a university setting.

NAAP contends that if pharmapsychology CE classes will only be approved by the APA  if the courses take place in a "regionally accredited institution of higher learning," then access to courses in this topic may be limited for psychologists who are not in located near to an institution offering the courses. NAPPP also states that by restricting future pharmapsychology CE courses to those offered by academic institutions, psychologists that have taken pharmapsychology courses in other settings may be negatively affected if the past CE coursework is perceived as not meeting CE guidelines by payers.
