ShareMental Illness and Substance Use Hospitalizations in New Hampshire, 1997-2006

The study, written by Peter Antal, Ph. D., explains the patterns of use of mental health and substance abuse services throughout New Hampshire's hospitals. The report looks at changes in hospital patient demographics, patterns of use, patterns of service, patterns of charge and insurance coverage, patterns of condition identification, risks associated with lack of coverage.

The report concludes that the number of patients seeking inpatient care for mental illness and substance abuse has increased over the years of the study and that the amount of hospitals providing care to those patients has decreased. The report additionally mentions that more individuals are seeking public care rather than private and that the trend is expected to continue.
