Illinois Comptroller's Quarterly: Fiscal Problems Worsen Significantly as FY 2010 Ends

The report describes a fiscal crisis facing Illinois as fiscal year 2010 ended and 2011 started. The Office of the Comptroller has estimated that the state is likely to face severe fiscal difficulties because it owed service provider organizations about $5 billion for services rendered during fiscal year 2010. The amount owed may increase because provider organizations can submit bills for the previous fiscal year through August.
