 Ready for 21st Century Success: The New Promise of Public Education in
Massachusetts
This document lays out the vision, goals, and recommendations for
education reform in Massachusetts as proposed by Governor Deval Patrick.
The plan does not increase the number charter schools, but proposes
Readiness Schools, to be converted from of existing schools and modeled
after pilot schools. School districts would have more control over
curriculum, the educational calendar, hiring decisions, and policies
under the plan. The proposal seeks to provide universal pre-kindergarten,
greater access to community college courses for high school students, and
free community college tuition.
