Letter to Oklahoma School Superintendents About Lindsey Nicole Henry Scholarship for Students With Disabilities Program Act

On August 26, 2010, the Oklahoma State Board of Education approved 13 private schools to participate in a new voucher system for students with special needs. The law, which took effect August 27, allows public school students with special needs to apply for scholarships to attend a state-approved private school that can better meet their needs. Dubbed the Lindsey Nicole Henry Scholarship for Students with Disabilities, the scholarship program created through House Bill 3393 permits the public school district to redirect a share of its special education funding received from the state for the vouchers used by scholarship recipients attending a participating private school.
