2010 National Health Insurer Report Card
A review of medical claim processing accuracy among seven large health plans found that one-in-five claims were processed incorrectly in February and March 2010. The review has been conducted for three years as part of the
American Medical Association's (AMA) "Heal the Claims
Process" campaign launched in 2008 with the goal of showing how
claims administration
affects the cost of health care. For the 2010report, AMA researchers reviewed claims processing accuracy rates
for seven large health plans: Aetna, Anthem
Blue Cross and Blue Shield, CIGNA Corp., Coventry Health Care, Health Care Service
Corporation, Humana, Inc., and UnitedHealth Group. The highest
accuracy rate of 88% was
held by Coventry Health Care, Inc. The lowest
accuracy rate of 74% was held by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.
