ShareIssue Brief: Successful Transitions for People With Developmental Disabilities

At the request of the North Carolina general assembly, the North Carolina Institute of Medicine convened a task force to suggest ways to improve services, programs, coordination and accessibility to help students with developmental and intellectual disabilities better transition into post-secondary education and the community. Older adults with I/DD and I/DD individuals living with an aging caregiver are also addressed. By increasing state, local, and community development, strengthening disability expertise, and ensuring case managers and direct support workers' competencies, an independent lifestyle can be attained for North Carolina's disabled population.
