Indiana House Bill 1678
The legislation establishes the Healthier Indiana plan. It is effective
as of July 1, 2007 and
will be offered to state residents beginning in January 2008. The
plan establishes the "Check Up" plan trust fund that will
operate similar to a health savings account. Plan enrollees will pay
their medical expenses out of the account, and once tea account
funds are The legislation also does the following:
- Increases the income limit for
Medicaid eligibility for pregnant women
- Allows for continuous eligibility
of a child for Medicaid and the children's health insurance
program until the child turns three
- Enables certain small employers to join together to purchase group
health insurance
- Gives qualifying employers a tax
credit for the first two years that the employer makes coverage
available
- Requires health insurers and
health maintenance organizations to cover children up to 24 years
old upon request
