Pennsylvania Regulations for Assisted Living Residences

On June 3, 2010, the Pennsylvania Independent Regulatory Review Commission (IRRC) approved a new licensing category specifically for assisted living residences (ALRs). The regulations are slated to become effective January 2011. Designed to establish minimum standards for ALRs, the regulations address the size of ALR facilities, specify needed equipment, define operations, specify the types of care that can be provided in the ALR setting, identify mandatory programs and services, specify training frequencies, and set staffing levels.
