This legislation, passed by the Indiana Legislature in March 2008. It provides for property tax relief by assigning numerous county public welfare responsibilities to the state. The legislation will become effective on January 1, 2009. Key changes include state administration of child welfare services, including child support, juvenile justice, and child protective services and foster care. Funding for services to be taken over by the state will come from a one-percent sales tax increase.
