Florida APD 2007 Legislative Wrap-Up Report
This report summarizes 2007 state legislation relevant to the
Florida
Agency for People with Disabilities (APD). The key bills are:
- OCS/SB-1124 Relation to Home and
Community-Based Services/Persons with Disabilities-This bill
directs the Agency for Health Care Administration to consult with
APD in seeking federal approval to implement the four-tiered
system to serve clients. Effective date: July 1, 2007
- CS/HB-509 This bill will create
a Children and Youth Cabinet in the Office of the Governor. The
cabinet is made up of 15 members, including the governor, with the
goal of enhancing services provided to children. They are
responsible for the development of strategic plan, outcome
measures, an impact statement on proposed legislation, and youth
based budget through a children and youth estimating conference.
Effective date: July 1, 2007
- CS/HB-397 Caregivers For
Adults- Allows for The Department of Elder Affairs to
establish a pilot program to train people as companions for adults
over age 60. The pilot program would be established in Pasco or
Pinellas County, Florida for no longer than three years. Effective
date: July 1, 2007
