Nationwide Rollup Review of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 Oversight, A-04-08- 05069

The federal Office of the Inspector General for the Department of Health and Human Services reviewed how well the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services oversaw hospital procedures for health information technology security. The auditors reviewed seven hospitals located in seven states. They found 125 high-risk security lapses that could result in loss of data, unauthorized access, or harm to patients.
