The 2005 Partnership Attitude Tracking Study shows that substance
abuse among seventh through twelfth grade students continues to decline.
Self-reported use rates of the following drugs in 2005 are:
- 37% marijuana
- 20% inhalants
- 19% prescription medication, such
as Ritalin or pain relievers not prescribed for them
- 10% cough medicine
- 10% crack or cocaine
- 8% methamphetamine
- 8% ecstasy
- 6% LSD
- 5% heroin
- 4% ketamine
- 4% GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate)-a
depressant
The data in this report were
collected from March through June 2005. Adolescents in grades
seven
through 12 were questioned with an oversampling of African- and
Hispanic-American populations. Adolescents completed
self-administered questionnaires under the supervision of Roper's
interviewers. The anonymity of all respondents was maintained
throughout the study.
