Williams v. Quinn Fact Sheet

Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, Access Living, American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois, and Equip for Equality released a fact sheet on Williams v. Quinn. Preliminary approval was granted for the Consent Decree in this class action lawsuit where Illinois was alleged to have violated the Americans with Disabilities Act. If final approval for the Consent Decree is granted it will require Illinois to transition any residents in Institutions for Mental Disease (IMDs) to community-based settings within a five-year period and give all IMD residents an individualized, independent evaluation, and opportunity to live in a community-based setting.
