 Illinois Senate Bill 1590
to Amend the Illinois Marriage & Dissolution of Marriage Act to Permit
Virtual Visitation
On May 15, 2009, the Illinois legislature
approved Senate Bill (SB) 1590 to permit virtual visitation as an option
in family court. The governor has 90 days to sign SB 1590. If the bill
becomes law, the state will be the fifth to officially endorse virtual
visitation. Virtual visitation includes e-mail, instant messaging, video
conferencing, video calls, video mail, or other means of communication
facilitated by the Internet.
