 Lifeway for Youth, Inc., v. State of Ohio Department of Job & Family
Services
On April 10, 2007, Lifeway for Youth, Inc. (LFY), a private foster
care agency operating in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Virginia filed
a lawsuit against the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS)
over ODJFS handling of a foster care investigation. The lawsuit,
filed in the Ohio Court of Claims, says that ODJFS sought to damage
LFYs reputation as a foster care agency in order to shift blame
following a highly publicized child death in August 2006. LFY seeks
more than $1 million in restitution and preliminary and permanent
injunctions against ODJFS communications with the media, referring
agencies, and foster families that would interfere with LFY business
relationships.
