This research by the Agency for Healthcare and Research Quality assessed health care access for non-elderly adults with multiple chronic conditions. The researchers found that uninsured people under the age of 65 who had multiple chronic health conditions spent about 12% of their family incomes on out-of-pocket health care expenses during 2007-2008. Their average out-of-pocket expense was $1,478; of that, about $898 was for care related to their chronic health conditions.
