Racial and Ethnic Equity in Child Welfare Practice: Implications for Latino Children and Youth

Karina Jimenez Lewis, MSW, Senior Policy Associate, Casey Family Services, explains in this brief the controversy of high number of colored children who are in the child welfare system. Children of color have historically been the subject of child protective investigations and probably are the cause of slower rates of reunification than Caucasian counterparts. The article discusses the implications of racial and ethnic disproportionality and disparities in child welfare system for all children of color.
