The Adam Walsh Child Protection & Safety Act of 2006
July 27, 2006 The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 created a new National Child Abuse Registry to be used by child protective service professionals to conduct background checks of adoptive and foster parents. In addition, the Act also expanded the National Sex Offender Registry and strengthened federal penalties for crimes against children, such as child prostitution or sex trafficking, and authorized regional taskforces to help local law enforcement combat sexual exploitation of minors on the Internet . . .
