ShareArizona House Bill 2847, Mandating Insurance Coverage for Autism Treatment

This bill, signed into law by Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano, requires insurance carriers in the state to provide coverage of evidence-based medically necessary autism therapies. This law, also known as "Steven's Law" applies to insurance contracts and policies issued or renewed in the state as of June 30, 2009. Insurers are not permitted to exclude or deny coverage for treatment or impose dollar limits, deductibles, or coinsurance provisions based solely on an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis.
