Challenges Point to Need for Fundamental
Reform
In preparing for our
fiscal future, policymakers will want to consider the dramatic
change in composition of spending that has occurred over the last
several decades and the expected challenges shown in GAOs
budget simulations. With
respect to health care, both the private and public sectors are
losing ground in their efforts to balance competing goals of
sustainable cost, broad access, and good quality. Health
insurance may be out of reach for many individuals in poor health.
