 Background
Briefing--Medical Assistance Budget Drivers Recent Utilization and
Cost Trends
This report provides
specific information and detailed measures of medical care service
use trends, and is provided as background for fiscal and health
policy makers as they prepare the 2001-03 biennial budget. The
report was prepared by the DSHS, Medical Assistance
Administration, with assistance from the DSHS Budget Office, and
describes basic utilization trends for a specific client
population covered by Medicaid and Medicare.
The source of data used in this report was the Medicaid Management
Information System (MMIS) Extended Database. MMIS paid claims
history and client eligibility files generated this database. The
analysis covers data for services provided during State Fiscal
Years 1998-2000. Reported services were selected from MMIS
payments made through January 2001. What follows is a slide show
of data gathered.
