ShareAnalyzing Autism Vouchers in Ohio

This report by Policy Matters Ohio sought to examine the workings of the Ohio Autism Scholarship Program, which allows parents whose children are considered to have an autism spectrum disorder use public funds to purchase education or treatment at private schools or other approved facilities. The investigation found that many of the facilities have selective admissions practices, do not offer a school setting, are mainly concentrated in urban areas, and are used more often by wealthier Ohioans. In addition, the state provides little to no oversight of the agencies. Policy Matters made several recommendations for improving this system.
