SharePilot Program to Reduce North Carolina Psychiatric Hospital Use & to Increase Local Services for Persons with Mental Illness

This report was given to the North Carolina Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services (MHDDSAS) by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, MHDDSAS Division to update them on the progress of the local management entities pilot program. The program is designed to reduce state psychiatric hospital use in terms of bed days and admissions. By estimating each participant's future admission and bed day reductions based on their performance from July 2007 to February 2008, the report finds the pilot project to be successful.
