Consumer-Directed Health Care for Persons Under 65 Years of Age with Private Health Insurance: United States, 2007
The researchers sought to present the penetration rate of HDHPs. The estimates are from the 2007 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), which included responses from 67,325 persons under age 65. The questions about HDHPs, CDHPs, and FSAs were first included in the 2007 NHIS. Detailed questions about private health insurance plans were asked on a plan basis. Information was collected on up to four private health insurance plans per family. In 2007, an estimated 17.3% of Americans under age 65 with private health insurance had an HDHP with an annual individual deductible of $1,100 or a family deductible of $2,200 or more.
