 CCHIT Expansion Roadmap
CCHIT launched certification of Ambulatory EHR products in May 2006,
the culmination of an 18 month period of developing compliance
criteria and an inspection process. While certification has enjoyed
a high degree of market acceptance, considerable feedback was
received urging CCHIT to go beyond the scope of work in its original
HHS contract, and to expand and refine its certification model to
address the needs of professional specialties, additional care
settings, and specific patient populations.In
response to this need, CCHIT held a Town Call attended by more than
175 individuals on December 11, 2006. During that call, CCHIT
described an approach for making fair and objective ecisions
regarding expansion of certification. Advocates for ay area of
practice were then invited to provide input during an Environmental
Scan from December 11, 2006, to January 12, 2007.
