ShareThe 2008 NCCPR Florida Rate-of-Removal Index

The National Coalition for Child Protection Reform conducted a review of each of the districts of Florida's Department of Children and Families (DCF) to determine the rate of child removals there. The Coalition sought to compare each DCF district's tendency to remove children from their homes with that district's child safety outcomes. The report found that DCF had an overall decrease (19%) in child removals between 2006 and 2007. DCF was also found to be highly successful in avoiding re-abuse and avoiding putting children into foster care more than once. Overall, the report found that DCF districts with the best child welfare outcomes were those which removed the fewest children.
