MACPAC March 2011 Report to the Congress on Medicaid and CHIP

The Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC) released a report to Congress about Medicaid and CHIP. The report found that a quarter of Americans—nearly 75 million people—were covered by Medicaid or a health plan offered through the State Children’s Health Insurance Program in fiscal year 2010 at a cost of $411 billion. Medicaid covered 68 million children and adults at a cost of $400 billion, and about 30 million of those covered were children under age 19. CHIP covered 8 million children; their care cost $11 billion.
