 Fiscal Year 2007 New Jersey Budget of Governor Jon S. Corzine
Governor Jon Corzine's proposal includes a funding and implementation
plan to create a new department of Children and Families (DCF), to
focus attention on child welfare and related issues. The governor's
proposal seeks to create the new department so that it can begin its
duties by July 1, 2006.
DCF will begin on July 1, and will initially be composed only of
the divisions in DHS focused on child protection, welfare, education
and permanency, child behavioral health and abuse prevention. A new
interim body, the Governor's Task Force on Human Service
Restructuring, will be empanelled to evaluate existing resources
within state government and to make recommendations for efficiency
and alignment of resources to improve services in the areas of child
welfare in DCF and for vulnerable residents being served by DHS.
