Share Maine Pineland & Community Consent Decree Release

The consent decree governed services for about 1,500 adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities who had lived at the Pineland Center in New Gloucester. In 1994, the Pineland Consent Decree was replaced by the Community Consent Decree. On March 19, 2010, Maine was released from the Pineland Consent Decree filed in 1978. U.S. District Justice George Singal said the state was in substantial compliance with the updated consent decree terms of 1994 and that the state has mechanisms in place to ensure compliance in the future.
