Virginia Senate Bill 67
This bill was signed into law. It specifies that
minors may be admitted for mental health treatment involuntarily. The
bill is effective on July 1, 2008. A minor (aged 14 or older) may be
admitted to a mental health facility for 72 hours if that minor is
incapable of making an informed decision, meaning that he is unable to
understand the nature, extent, or probable consequences of a proposed
treatment or unable to make a rational evaluation of the risks and
benefits of the proposed treatment as compared with the risks and
benefits of alternatives to the treatment."
