 Grading the States 2009
The report is a comparative assessment of state mental health care
systems conducted by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). The
information was provided by state mental health agencies in response to a
NAMI survey in August 2008. Other data were drawn from academic research,
health care associations, and federal agencies. In addition, NAMI
conducted a nationwide on-line survey for consumers with mental illness
or in recovery and family members. The 13,000 survey responses were not
used in the grading process but helped to inform the report. NAMI
volunteers also conducted a Consumer and Family Test Drive of state
mental health agency web sites and telephone resources to measure the
ease of access to information.
