Chart
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is preparing for the July 1, 2010, transition to a new type of behavioral health services
organization, the Critical Access Behavioral Health Agency (CABHA). This flowchart shows the steps in the certification process. A CABHA can be a for-profit
or not-for-profit, public or private behavioral health care company that provides a continuum of care for a selected age or disability group; the continuum
includes the core services of comprehensive assessment, outpatient treatment, and medication management, and at least two enhanced
services. At a minimum, a CABHA will have a medical director, clinical director, and a quality improvement/training director on staff.
