 "Upcoding" Problem Exacerbates Overpayments to
Medicare Advantage Plans
This report was released on March 12, 2009 by
the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Authored by January Angeles
and Edwin Park, this report states that Medicare pays private plans 14
percent more than it costs to reach the same beneficiaries in the
traditional Medicare program. This problem will be addressed beginning in
2010.
