Alaska House Bill 187
Alaska House Bill 187 was introduced by State Representative Pete
Petersen on March 12, 2009. The bill would require private health
insurance companies to cover the diagnosis, testing, and treatment of
ASD. The annual maximum benefit is $36,000. Coverage must be provided for
treatments prescribed, provided, or ordered by a licensed physician or
licensed psychologist who deems the care medically necessary. Covered
treatments include: diagnosis, habilitative or rehabilitative care,
pharmacy care, psychiatric care, psychological care, therapeutic care,
and Applied Behavioral Analysis. The bill only applies to fully-funded
health plans governed by state law.
