Nondiscrimination on
the Basis of Sex in Education
Programs or Activities Receiving
Federal Financial Assistance; Proposed
Rules
The Secretary proposes
to amend the regulations
implementing Title IX of the
Education Amendments of 1972
(Title IX), which prohibits sex discrimination
in federally assisted education
programs. These proposed amendments
would clarify and modify Title
IX regulatory requirements pertaining
to the provision of single-sex schools
and classes 1 in elementary and secondary
schools. The proposed amendments
would expand flexibility for
recipients that may be interested in providing
single-sex schools or classes, and
they would explain how single-sex schools
or classes may be provided consistent
with the requirements of Title
IX.
