Disability Law Center v. Dennehy
The lawsuit, Disability Law Center v. Dennehy, was filed March 8, 2007. The Massachusetts-based Disability Law Center alleged that prisoners with serious
mental illness were held in segregation and isolated in their cells for up to 23 hours daily. The plaintiffs said the practice violated the Constitutional prohibition
against cruel and unusual punishment as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act. At the time the lawsuit was filed, about 500 inmates were held in
segregation.
