ShareHR 4848 as Referred to the Senate

This bill, approved by the U.S. House of Representatives and sent to the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, would extend mental health parity for federal mental health insurance benefits until December 31, 2008. The bill amends several pieces of legislation to continue provisions of the Mental Health Parity Act of 1996 that require health insurance plans to provide equal mental, medical, and surgical benefits for both lifetime and annual benefit limits covered by the plan. The Act was initially authorized for five years and has been extended every year with bipartisan support since initial authorization expired.
