The Autism Phenome Project
The University of California Davis Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders
(M.I.N.D.) Institute has begun a multidisciplinary, longitudinal study of 1,800 children aged 2-4 years old in order to assess the causes and subtypes of autism. The subjects will be divided into three groups: 900 with autism, 450 with developmental
delay, and a control group of 450 who are developing typically.
Each subject will undergo a thorough medical evaluation as well as specific analyses of their immune systems, brain structures and functions, genetics, environmental exposures, and blood proteins. The project seeks to identify the biomedical and behavioral markers of each subtype in order to provide information for appropriate treatments for each subtype.
