Massachusetts
Announces Health & Human Services Restructuring Plan
On February 24, 2003, Massachusetts
Governor Mitt Romney announced a restructuring plan for the
Commonwealths sixteen health and human services agencies. Under
the restructuring, the Massachusetts' sixteen agencies would be
reformulated as four different entities:

Children,
Youth, and Families: Department of Social Services, the Office
of Child Care Services, the Department of Transitional
Assistance, the Department of Youth Services and the Office
for Refugees and Immigrants

Disabilities
and Community Services: Department of Mental Retardation, the
long-term care unit of the Division of Medical Assistance, the
Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, the Commission for
the Blind, the Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing,
and the Chelsea and Holyoke Soldiers Homes

Health:
Department of Public Health, the acute care unit of the
Division of Medical Assistance, and the Department of Mental
Health

Elder
Affairs: which is made up of Community-based care for seniors
and veterans
