 CMS Proposed Decision Memo for Vagus Nerve Stimulation for Treatment
of Resistant Depression
CMS is proposing that there is sufficient evidence to conclude that
vagus nerve stimulation is not reasonable and necessary for
treatment of resistant depression. Accordingly, it proposes to issue
a national non-coverage determination for this indication.
CMS requested public comments on this proposed determination
pursuant to Section 731 of the Medicare Modernization Act. CMS seeks
comments that include new evidence not reviewed in this resource.
After considering the public comments submitted by March 7, 2007,
and any additional evidence, a final determination will be made a
final decision memorandum will be issued.
