Public Opinion Strategies:
NMHA Research Project -
Executive Summary
In January-February 2001, Public Opinion Strategies conducted
three components of a national research project on behalf of
Chamberlain Communications Group. The survey was conducted with
the cooperation of the National Mental Health Association and
designed with their input and assistance. The topic of all three
components dealt with the diagnosed condition of depression how
it is perceived and dealt with by those suffering from the
problem, how it is perceived and treated by health care providers,
and how it is perceived by the general public.
As part of these three research components, we interviewed:
- 500 patients who are currently being treated either by
medication or by participating in psychotherapy/counseling
- 300 health care professionals/providers
- 100 personal care physicians
(referenced in this report as
PCPs)
- 100 psychiatrists
- 100 psychologists
- A national sample of 800 adults in the continental U.S.
The following memo outlines some key findings from this
research. |
