ShareKentucky House Bill 190

Kentucky House Bill 190 was introduced on February 3, 2009. It requires private health insurance companies to provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder in children, but no upper age limit was specified. The maximum annual benefit was not specified. Coverage must be provided for treatments provided or ordered by a licensed physician or a licensed psychologist who determine the care to be medically necessary. Covered treatments include: diagnosis, habilitative or rehabilitative care, pharmacy care, psychiatric care, psychological care, therapeutic care, and ABA. The provisions of the bill apply only to fully-funded health plans governed by the state and to state health plans offered to public employees. If approved as proposed, the provisions would take effect 30 days after the legislation is signed into law.
