OJJDP In Focus, Fact Sheet on Girls' Delinquency Trends

The U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) reviewed trends in girls' delinquency since 1980. The proportion of girls arrested for violent offenses has increased from 11% in 1980 to 18% in 2000, and to 30% in 2004. Even though arrest numbers remained higher for boys than girls during that period, arrest rates for girls increased while rates for boys decreased.
