Best Practice Models for Unit Costing: Managing and Reducing the Cost of Service Delivery

This presentation, by John F. Talbot, Ph.D., Executive Vice President, OPEN MINDS, was given at the 2010 OPEN MINDS Best Management Practices Institute. During this session, Mr. Talbot discussed the differences between traditional and unit costs, taught the fundamentals of better process management, and explained how to use unit costing for process management improvement. Mr. Talbot stressed that success in the behavioral health and social services organizations is dependent on providing the best care at the lowest possible cost; therefore, unit costing has proven itself to be the most effective method.
