Fall 2008
Results From the Fall 2008 National Study of Public Attitudes Toward
Addiction
Researchers from the Hazelden Foundation conducted a telephone survey of
1,000 nationally representative adult respondents in order to identify
attitudes toward addiction and its treatment, consumer awareness and
experience with treatment, the impact of addiction on families, and the
impact of addiction on the workplace. They found that while approximately
70% of Americans believe that health insurance should cover addiction
treatment, almost as many Americans don't know whether or not their own
insurance covers such treatment.
