Testimony to the Iowa Medicaid Pharmaceutical & Therapeutic Committee
The Iowa Medicaid Pharmaceutical & Therapeutic Committee met on December 7, 2006 to consider a number of proposals affecting access to pharmaceuticals in Iowa. Among the proposals, the committee was considering requiring prior authorization for antipsychotic medications. Monica E. Oss, chief executive officer of
OPEN MINDS, testified on behalf of NAMI-Iowa about the likely cost implications of that proposal. In this testimony, Ms. Oss cited current state spending patterns for mental health, cost-offset research, and new evidence-based practice models - and closed with alternate options for decreasing total mental health spending.
