The State of 50+ in America 2006
This annual report from the American Association of Retired Persons assesses quality of life for Americans over the age of 50. There are 25 indicators in four key spheres of well being: economic, health, consumption/social/lifestyle, and independent living/long-term care.
Key points:
- Older Americans have not experienced an increase in income since 1999
- Twenty percent of older Americans report concerns about affording medical care
- More than 6.6 million 50 to 64 year olds are uninsured
- Half of the population (in 2004)
over the age of 62 received more than half their income from sources other than Social Security
