Share LB603 - Adopt the Behavioral Health Workforce Act and Provide Funding

LB603 combines five safe-haven-related bills. The provisions are estimated to cost $16 million for 2009-2011, which would provide for the following:

  • $6 million will expand the Kids Connection health insurance program

  • $8 million will create a hot line, family navigator program, and services for adoptive parents and guardians of former state wards

  • $1.5 million would increase behavioral health services for children, and create a Children's Behavioral Health Oversight Committee to monitor implementation of the bill and other child welfare and juvenile justice behavioral health initiatives

  • $3 million would be used to create a center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center to train behavioral health professionals for rural and underserved areas of the state, with a focus on telehealth
